Dance/movement therapy (DMT) is a body-centered psychotherapy that integrates a client’s physical body into the therapy process. By giving the body a “voice,” through movement, gesture, dance, sound and/or awareness of subtle sensations, you can gain insight into long-held patterns of thought, emotion, mind and behavior.  The awareness and understanding gained in this process can help you to develop a deep inner sense of knowing, to reduce anxiety and depression, to make healthy decisions, to set boundaries in relationships, and to feel grounded and more confident.

The benefits we can receive from what our bodies tell us is dependent upon how well we are able to listen and how we choose to respond. Dance/movement therapy gives us access to memories, emotions, and beliefs that are otherwise beyond words and cognition. By paying closer attention to our whole selves–or our “body-brains”–in addition to our thinking-brains, we can begin to lead healthier lives, both physically and psychologically.

Dance/movement therapy is beneficial to people who are experiencing physical, emotional, traumatic or relational issues and can be used with individuals, couples, families and groups.
